PETERBOROUGH: - Just an ordinary City . . . or is it?
Some of these are among the most spine chilling and thought provoking ghost stories you are ever likely to hear.

Peterborough is a City that has seen much development over the past forty years with more than it's share of new suburbs springing up, but it's roots are that of a saxon market town.
Situated on the edge of the Fens with the River Nene running through it from east to west, the City lies some 80 miles north of London just off the A1 - the original 'Great North Road' runs close by. There was an Abbey as early as the seventh century on the site of where now stands the Cathedral, this is  central to understanding the entire path of history the City's development has taken.

From the first world war soldier whose ghost has been regularly seen in the City's museum, to poltergeists in an old railway cottage . . fleeing monks . . to a bloody handless apparition . . . the man at the window who had long since died, or the fearful lady in black about whom the council actually erected warning signs! - Peterborough has it all!

There are many, many documented ghostly accounts  from around the Peterborough area, many of which tie in with the historical period to which they pertain as you might expect, but there are also some very strange and unusual experiences that have happened to folk living in and around the city.
This page and associated  links tells of some of these tales.
Firstly, a little about the general history of the City.
